Minaříková, Olga ; Krawczyk, Petr (referee) ; Zamazal, Jan (referee) ; Zdařil, Zdeněk (referee) ; Zvonek, Miroslav (advisor)
This work deals with a new approach of designing ortho-prosthetic devices in terms of mechanical solution and innovative design. The work was addressed to a specific patient with congenital malformation of upper limbs called phocomelia. A custom-made compensatory aid was made on basis of personal consultations and meetings on specialized workplace; however the aid was built in a way and from parts for other kind of disability. As it turned out, the use of this equipment is associated with many complications, and therefore as a result, this solution proved as unsatisfactory. Nevertheless, thanks to this compensation aid it was possible to specify the problems, to reveal important patterns and highlight the needs for development of entirely new and unique aid designed for patients with phocomelia disability. The work is based on these findings and knowledge acquired from bibliographic search in the field of orthotics, prosthetics, assistive devices and prosthetic equipment. A complete redesign was done with the aim to eliminate all detected problems. The presented result is a unique tool for people with specific congenital disability of upper limbs, with working label 4TE.

Author: Bc. Klára Gazdová Supervisor: Bc. Zuzana Rodová, M.Sc. Title: The Design of Universal Models of Assistive Devices for Production Using a 3D Printing to Improve the Self-sufficiency of People with Acquired Brain Injury Abstract: Background: Patients with acquired brain injury often need to be equipped with personalized compensatory aids to increase paretic upper limb involvement and self-sufficiency. One of technologies for production of aids is 3D printing, which is use abroad. Limit is professional and time consuming in preparation of 3D models of printing aids. Reducing this complexity is possible by creating universal 3D models that allow change dimensions of aid without professional intervention. Goal: Main goal is design universal 3D models of aids. Aids help patients engage paretic upper limb and increase self-sufficiency. Based on analysis, activities of daily living in patients with acquired brain injury were selected. Methodology: Author created Record Form data collection, guidelines were created to minimize subjectivity in acquisition of data from occupational therapists. Author collected data at Rehabilitation Institute Kladruby and ERGO Aktiv o.p.s. Record form was distributed to occupational therapists working with target group of patients, but models were created from...

Title: The Proposal and Implementation Assistive Devices for Patients with Acquired Brain Injury Using 3D Printer Abstract: Background: Acquired brain injury cause disability, which influences human self-sufficiency. Self-sufficiency can be increased by assistive devices. 3D printing technology seems to be appropriate alternative for creating tailor-made compensatory aids. Foreign organizations are forming the trend. Goal formulation: The main goal is to create tailor-made assistive devices for patients with acquired brain injury using a 3D printer. The partial goal is an assessment of the financial and technical demands of the technology for ordinary occupational therapy practice. Methodology: For five patients with acquired brain injury was created a tailor-made compensatory aid as a part of the bachelor's thesis and printed using 3D printing. The aids were focused on activities of daily living that the patients were not able to perform without the aid. Results: Six self-feeding aids have been created. One aid had to be redone after testing. One patient needed a soft aid that 3D printing cannot produce. The created aids allowed four patients to engage the paretic upper limb in self-feeding. Conclusion: 3D...

Availabity of compensation aids for people with impaired vision after social reform in 2012
KUNEŠOVÁ, Hana
Bachelor thesis "The availability of assistive devices for people with visual impairments after social reform in 2012" discusses specific changes in Act no. 100/1988 Coll., about social security, in particular changes relating to contributions to special tool. The aim of the work is to highlight resulting differences in national regulations and determine whether the interviewed individuals with visual disabilities have changed the approach in selection of assistive devices that they need for their life. Thesis is divided into three parts: theoretical, research, and appendix. The theoretical part focuses on problem of visual impairment and possibility of compensation, because the eye is considered as very important part of every person's life. If a person cannot fully exploit this sense, it is necessary to use various assistive devices to help him cope with everyday situations. However, the individual may use a particular tool, he must meet certain criteria, both in terms of health and finances. Conditions that he must currently meet, so he could be granted a special allowance for aid are set out in Act no. 329/2011 Coll., about provision of benefits for persons with disabilities, which is supplemented by Decree no. 388/2011 Coll., implementing certain provisions of the Act for provision of benefits to persons with disabilities. The above two laws refer to third part of theoretical part, where are precisely defined differences arising just from reform. The research part first sets the goal of work and specific research question, followed by a work methodology that was used in form of qualitative research. Using semi-structured interviews with individual clients of TyfloCentrum in Pilsen I was looking for an answer to research question which is: "Should social reform impact on changing the approach in the selection of mobility aids for persons with visual disabilities?" From respondents' answers the answer to this question revealed, that social reform did not affect the change of approach in selection of compensatory aids in investigation file. These individuals with visual disabilities do not have to re-evaluate their requirements and aids can also choose the same manner as before the reform. Theoretical part of this work may serve as a resource, or as a brief overview of what has by the influence of social reform changed and for what have currently users of assistive devices claim, without tediously search this information on the internet or ask competent authority. Practical part of the work gives the opportunity to use it for services for individual TyfloCenters, where qualitative information can be used to adjust survey offers to its clients, namely withdrawal of tenders of unproven products and vice versa will encourage companies that have good references.
The impact of Canavan's disease on the child's life and her family.
STAVINOHOVÁ, Alena
This bachelor thesis deals with a person with Canavan disease. This is a very rare combination disability in which the individual is completely dependent on the care of another person. The individual with this disability is for all her life at two monthly child, both in mental and physical development. The main goal of thesis is to describe this rare disease. The partial goal is to describe some compensation aids that a person with Canavan disease can use, describe the educational opportunities and benefits for persons with disabilities, thanks to which they can be secured and care in a family environment. I chose this topic because of the rarity of this disease and ignorant society, what this disease is all about. Thanks to long-term cooperation with the family in which the girl lives, I could use the collected information from the birth of a girl to the present situation, when the girl is eight years old.I describe the current knowledge about Canavan disease, deal with various manifestations, such as mental disability, physical disability and epilepsy in the theoretical part with the help of scientific literature. Another part of the thesis is focused on family of a child with disabilities. I deal with the birth of a child, with the associated stages of coping with the birth of a child with a disability and inappropriate educational styles. Next, I describe the various benefits, to which the individual with disabilities has a claim. The third part contains a topic of comprehensive rehabilitation. I describe individual means of comprehensive rehabilitation, which we classify medical, social, educational and labor means. In the fourth paragraph of the theoretical part, I deal with the education of children and pupils with disabilities. I describe the importance of early intervention as for individuals with disabilities as their families, training programs such as the Framework Educational Program and School Educational Program. I deal with the possibilities of education of children and pupils with disabilities both in early childhood education and in primary education and related methods of compulsory school attendance. I describe schools established independently for pupils with special educational needs, the possibility of integration, activity assistant teacher, an individual education plan and school counseling facilities, which fulfills an important role in the integration of children, pupils and students. All the above-mentioned areas concerning education of children and pupils with special educational needs are complement laws and regulations that govern them. The practical part of the thesis is divided into two parts. The first part includes a case study of the family of a girl with Canavan disease. The case study includes a medical history, where I describe in detail the difficult course of detection of this disease. It also includes family and social history, which describes the family situation and housing conditions, in which the girl lives with Canavan disease. I deal with school attendance of girl and individual areas of education. I especially describe the development of girl from birth to current health status and taken medication. In the practical part, I also included the benefits that the girl receives and used assistive devices. I put pictures of the tools to the text for a complete idea of each assistive device. Some photos also contain a girl with Canavan disease. The second part of the practical part contains two interviews with mothers who had a child with Canavan disease. The purpose of these interviews was to obtain and compare the answers to predetermined questions. This work could be a source of information for parents, which a child is born with Canavan disease or otherwise heavily disabled child. It could be beneficial for anyone who wants to know more information about Canavan disease.
The Lifestyle of a Person with a Disability
KOSTLIVÁ, Hana
This thesis, titled "The Lifestyle of a Person with a Disability" deals with the quality of life and aims to map out possible differences in the subjective perception of quality of life of visually impaired individuals and individuals without this disorder. Visual impairment brings many difficulties in various areas of life. The most serious ones include learning about the outside world, manipulating objects, movement in space, but also reduced opportunities for employment, and social isolation. Each person, however, presents the concept of quality of life a different way based on the differences in values and needs that a person recognizes. The theoretical part is concerned with visual impairment terminology, the anatomy and physiology of the organs of sight, and the types of visual impairments. I describe the characteristics of individual groups of visually impaired persons, their opportunities to get a job and I mention the possibilities of using assistive devices. Finally, I mention the quality of life of persons with the impairment mentioned above. In the practical part of the thesis, I tried to find out, using the method of questioning, how people with visual impairment and those without this disorder perceive their quality of life, health and other areas of life. A sub-objective was to compare the quality of life of these two observed groups. With the information obtained from both the visually impaired persons and from persons without visual impairment, I could focus on possible changes in the opinions of these two observed groups and perform a comparative analysis of the data collection. The research was carried out in Blatná, in Strakonice, in České Budějovice, and in Prague. To obtain information, I chose the technique of questionnaires, i.e. a quantitative research. One research set was compiled from 31 respondents with no visual impairment, i.e. 56.0 %, and the other set consisted of 24 respondents with a visual impairment, i.e. 44.0 %. The research results were processed in the graphs. Based on the research, I found that there is no difference between the quality of life of visually impaired people and the quality of life of individuals without this disorder. Satisfaction in specific areas of life, i.e. health, relationships, leisure, social, professional and financial, does not differ between the groups. It was shown that the respondents are most satisfied with leisure time and relationships, while dissatisfied with health and finances.
